Data Interpretation Guide

The Directly Managed Acres by Target Species Report contains a summary of how many acres have been directly managed, summed by targeted species. This report is available in the TRACS Reports Module's Accomplishment Reports under "Featured Accomplishment Reports" and may be available as a summary report or itemized report at the National, Regional, and/or State levels, depending on the user's role and permissions.

How is this data collected?

This report pulls from the strategy 'Direct Habitat and Species Management' and the objective to 'Directly restore, enhance, create, or manage acres'.

  • When this objective is initially entered for the project statement, the data editor enters the expected/planned unit of measure for the activity, and is also required to identify the targeted species and targeted habitat(s).
Example of the objective entry in the Project Statement in TRACS:

  • In the Performance Report, only the Targeted Habitat(s) have targeted values entered (acres by targeted habitat). The Targeted Species are converted to “Species Tags” and do not have a specific targeted value of acres by species type.

How to correctly interpret the data in this report?

Due to the way we report on this activity, it is important to note that this report includes duplicate data due to data collection at disparate levels of detail. This report displays the activity unit of measure (total acres managed) by targeted species. Since targeted species are tags only (acreage by species is not collected), the total activity output value is duplicated across species tags.

For every species tag, the total activity unit of measure is counted, which means that the acreage count is duplicated across species listed in the same activity report.

For example:

  • 252 acres were managed (activity unit of measure)
  • Species Tags: Pronghorn and American Bison
  • Total Managed Acres by Species: Pronghorn = 252, American Bison = 252

On the report, the "Total Managed Acres" column displays the activity unit of measure of acres managed, duplicated across species tagged from the same activity report (listed by Species Scientific Name and Species Common Name columns).
