Data Interpretation Guide

The Directly Managed Acres by Target Habitat Report contains a summary of how many acres have been directly managed, summed by targeted habitat. This report is available in the TRACS Reports Module's Accomplishment Reports under "Featured Accomplishment Reports" and may be available as a summary report or itemized report at the National, Regional, and/or State levels, depending on the user's role and permissions.

How is this data collected?

This report pulls from the strategy 'Direct Habitat and Species Management' and the objective to 'Directly restore, enhance, create, or manage acres'. When the Performance Report is entered, the activity report has two sections for this objective:

• The "Report on Activity" box at the top of the page is where the data editor enters the reported/actual activity unit of measure, e.g., the total number of acres that were managed during this period of performance.

• Further down the page, the data editor enters the targeted values e.g., acres for each of the targeted habitats that were selected when the objective was initially entered in the project statement. Targeted values do not have to equal the overall activity unit of measure because it may not include all habitats, just the primary targets.  However, the targeted values are more accurate than the activity unit of measure when summarizing by habitat.

How to correctly interpret the data in this report?

This report displays the targeted value of acres managed by habitat type, instead of by the total for the activity (total acres managed). Note that when the system captures the targeted values, the activity unit of measure is NOT used in the TRACS Reports Module for this report because we have better data at the targeted level. However, there is no guarantee that targeted values add up to total for the activity, e.g., acres by targeted habitat(s) may not add up to the total acres reported for the activity.

On the report, the "Total Targeted Habitat Acres" column displays the targeted value of acres by habitat type, which corresponds to the habitat type listed in the “Habitat Common Name” column, and not the total acres for the activity.
