Data Interpretation Guide

The Individuals Stocked by Target Species Report contains a summary of how many individuals have been stocked by targeted species. This report is available in the TRACS Reports Module's Accomplishment Reports under "Featured Accomplishment Reports" and may be available as a summary report or itemized report at the National, Regional, and/or State levels, depending on the user's role and permissions.

How is this data collected?

This report pulls from the strategy ‘Species Stocking’ and the objective to ‘Stock fish or wildlife’. When the Performance Report is entered, the activity report has two sections for this objective:

  • The "Report on Activity" box at the top of the page is where the data editor enters the reported/actual activity unit of measure, e.g., the total number of individuals stocked during this period of performance.
  • Further down the page, the data editor enters the targeted values e.g., number of individuals stocked for each of the targeted species that were selected when the objective was initially entered in the project statementTargeted values do not have to equal the overall activity unit of measure because it may not include all species, just the primary targets.  However, the targeted values are more accurate than the activity unit of measure when summarizing by species.

How to correctly interpret the data in this report?

It is important to note that this report displays the target value of individuals stocked (in the column “Total Number of Species Individuals”) for each target species (listed in the “Species Scientific Name” and “Species Common Name” columns), instead of the output value (total individuals stocked for the activity).

This report displays the targeted value of individuals stocked by each species, instead of by the activity unit of measure (total individuals stocked). Note that when the system captures the targeted values, the activity unit of measure is NOT used in the TRACS Reports Module for this report because we have better data at the targeted level. However, there is no guarantee that targeted values add up to total for the activity, e.g., individuals stocked by targeted species may not add up to the total individuals reported for the activity.

On the report, the "Total Number of Species Individuals" column displays the targeted value of individuals stocked by species, which corresponds to the species listed in the “Species Scientific Name” and "Species Common Name" columns, and not the total number of individuals stocked for the activity.
